Reflection

During class in AMST 422 this past week, our task was to go out and broadcast of Zine project that we have all been working very hard on this semester. The class did a lot of  research, conducting interviews- then transcribing those interviews, and handing out flyers to people we would see walking on the street or to local businesses to showcase all the work we have done. Our task for this week of class is to go out and do one final push to broadcast our Zine to the surrounding neighborhood of Sowebo and also our our friends from UMBC who might b interested in showing some support for our event. After class this week, our task will be to write a one-page reflection on our performance in AMST 422 throughout the semester and also future directions that this project could shape for many small communities in the City of Baltimore like Sowebo.

Personal Statement

I, Jonathan Portuesi, as a driven and academically motivated person in the professional sector, see myself as a 'process' oriented person rather than "product" oriented person. What I mean by this is that by being focused on the 'process' I was able to learn more from the the people I interviewed and the research I participated in because I wasn't focused on a specific product. Yes the product (the Zine) was important, but what I really had to ask myself throughout this class was "did I touch another person's life  in Hollins Market other than my own and was I able to form lasting connections with people whom I may have never met if I did not take the class- AMST 422?"
